The Oregon Coast now has "Dead Zones". When the Phytoplankton hatches but there is nothing to eat them, they die and fall to the ocean floor. Here the dead plankton is consumed by bacteria. The bacteria comsumes so much oxygen from the water during this process that it depleats the water of oxygen for the rest of the sea life along the coast. Our tide pools now are grave yards. Once plentiful with sea life, tide pools are now almost completely baron. And to make things worse, tourist come along and take, harass or destroy what little life is left.
